The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has officially reopened yet another U-turn slot along EDSA. It just feels like trial-and-error at this point, but anyway. On to the details
The agency recently announced that the General Tinio U-turn slot in Caloocan City, one of the 13 EDSA U-turn slots that were initially closed in September 2020, has been reopened. The decision was made following complaints about heavy traffic in the area.
“To alleviate the heavy traffic flow, we will reopen the u-Turn slot in Gen. Tinio pending the proposed elevated bus ramps,” said MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos.
Caloocan City mayor Oscar Malapitan expressed his gratitude to the MMDA after the reopening of the U-turn slot. “We are grateful for the immediate action of the MMDA to resolve the traffic in the area,” said Malapitan.
Abalos added that the U-turn slot will remain open until the elevated bus ramps that the MMDA is eyeing are finally constructed. “We are already coordinating with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the design and eventual building of the elevated bus ramps,” he said.
No word yet if and when that will happen, so watch this space for further updates. In any case, if you frequently pass through this portion of EDSA, then take note that you’ll once again be able to use this specific U-turn slot along the thoroughfare.
