The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority recently launched its ‘May Huli Ka’ website, and during the press conference, the agency reiterated the importance of its No-Contact Apprehension Program.

The MMDA recently took note of a motorist who misused the EDSA Busway. Upon checking, said motorist had already used the exclusive bus lanes a whopping 309 times before NCAP was re-implemented, and nine times since it was put back in place. 309 violations in a span of 10 months? Damn.

Simula August last year hanggang noong Friday (June 13), isang sasakyan, 309 times siya pumasok sa EDSA Busway,” said MMDA chairman Atty. Don Artes. “Imagine, 309 times? Siyam po diyan, ginawa niya nung na-institute na ulit ’yung NCAP. At lahat po ito, nangyari nung gabi. Maybe because alam niya na madilim, walang nag-o-operate, or wala nang enforcer. Pero imagine niyo, 309 times sa loob lamang ng ilang buwan? Hindi naman po namin kaya pantayan ’yung ganitong violations every time nang mano-mano ng aming empleyado.”

Artes does raise a good point. We can’t say if the motorist would have continued to disregard the busway that frequently had he been caught earlier on, but that also goes to show how NCAP has its merits.

Frankly, though, this type of behavior is quite alarming. It just shows a complete and utter disregard for the law. It’s dangerous to enter the exclusive bus lanes, especially at night, which in and of itself is a reason to stay outside of them as responsible motorists.

Anyway, Artes has already identified the motorist, and he said the MMDA will take the necessary actions to penalize this individual. This should serve as a lesson to other road users—stay away from the EDSA Busway.
