Segment 1 of the NLEX Connector has provided alternate routes to motorists traveling between Caloocan City and Manila City since the elevated tollway opened back in 2023. However, as new routes like these open, traffic flow in the areas can often get complicated.

It appears that might have been the case for C3, España Boulevard, and Magsaysay Boulevard—all of which are high-traffic thoroughfares where NLEX Connector entry and exit points are located. To help manage the flow of vehicular traffic in those areas, NLEX Corporation and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority have installed new traffic lights at key intersections.

NLEX Corporation turned over the newly installed infrastructure to the MMDA, who in turn ensured compliance with the updated standards and requirements for an integrated traffic system. The new traffic lights use vehicle-detecting sensors instead of timers, and they are also expected to manage pedestrian crossings in their respective areas.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to easing congestion and improving the mobility experience for all, whether travelling along our expressways or local roads where our expressways, such as the NLEX Connector, traverse,” said MPTC chief regulatory officer Arrey Perez.

Ang proyekto pong ito ay isang magandang halimbawa ng pagtutulungan ng iba’t ibang ahensya at ng pribadong sektor para magkaroon tayo ng isang safer, smarter, and more efficient road network para sa lahat,” said MMDA chairman Don Artes.
