The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on August 22 that it will not suspend number coding on August 25, 2023, for the FIBA Basketball World Cup opening ceremonies.

Instead, the MMDA said it has set up a multi-agency command center “to give way to a faster and more coordinated traffic management response.” It also announced last week that it will implement intermittent stops along the following roads to give way to players and delegates as they arrive in the country and travel to event venues:

Via Memorandum Circular No. 27, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has already suspended classes in public schools in all levels and work in government offices in Metro Manila and Bulacan on August 25 for the opening ceremonies of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, which runs from August 25 to September 10. Tournament rounds in the Philippines will be held at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippine Arena in Bulacan, and SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The final phase of the tournament, from the quarterfinals up to the finals, will be held at SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Based on SPIN.ph’s report, local organizers of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup are aiming to break the attendance record of 32,616. This was set in Canada back in 1994, during the championship game between the USA and Russia.

Japan and Indonesia are the other host countries of this year’s event.
