The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that the expanded number coding scheme will be suspended on December 8, 2023.
“Suspendido ang pagpapatupad ng expanded number coding scheme sa Biyernes, Disyembre 8, Pista ng Immaculate Conception na isang special non-working holiday,” reads the MMDA’s advisory.
“Saan man ang destinasyon, laging tandaan: planuhin ang biyahe, sumunod sa batas trapiko, at mag-ingat sa pagmamaneho.”

In an interview with Teleradyo Serbisyo, MMDA acting chairman Atty. Romando Artes warned motorists to brace themselves for heavy traffic in the next three weekends. After the long weekend this week, Friday the 15th kicks off payday weekend, with people expected to do last-minute Christmas shopping.
“At yung [December] 22 naman po, yun na ang weekend going to Christmas, so yun na po ang inaasahan natin na influx ng mga uuwi ng probinsiya sa Kapaskuhan,” he said.
