In an announcement by the Department of Transportation on Tuesday, April 14, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the provision of additional assistance for public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers through a P10-per-liter fuel subsidy.

The fuel subsidy aims to support drivers and operators during this period of high diesel prices. The DOTr and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board are working with the Department of Energy and Land Bank of the Philippines on the program’s implementation.

Energy secretary Sharon Garin said that 52 gas stations in Metro Manila would be targeted to join the subsidy program starting April 14, while secretary Lopez explained that the government subsidy covers nearly 150 liters of diesel per driver per week.

“These are 52 gas stations in Metro Manila—all registered and legally operating. Basta gusto nilang sumama, included po sila,” said secretary Sharon Garin.

The DOTr said that the subsidy—alongside the Net Service Contracting Program—should benefit commuters, too. More fuel support means more PUVs can stay in service, easing queues and improving availability on busy routes.

To avail of the fuel subsidy, drivers can head to participating gas stations and present their plate number for verification. Once confirmed via the Landbank app, the available balance is checked before fuel is dispensed.
