If you’re a regular user of the free QCity Bus service in Quezon City, one of these new electric buses could soon be plying your route.
The Quezon City local government has acquired eight new electric buses to expand its transport fleet, as part of its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% in 2030. It’s also part of the city’s compliance with Republic Act No. 11697 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), which requires electric vehicles to make up at least 5% of government fleets.

The electric buses have a 41-passenger seating capacity, plus space to accommodate standing passengers. Safety features include handrails, fire suppression and emergency equipment, CCTV cameras, and smart TVs. For persons with disability, there are also wheelchair ramps to aid ingress and egress.

“We are excited to roll out these electric buses as part of our city’s dedication to implement programs and policies that promote environmental sustainability,” said Mayor Joy Belmonte of Quezon City. “We are determined to take charge in instituting climate action such as transitioning to alternative energy sources.”

This electrification of the city’s free transport fleet is aligned with the Enhanced Climate Change Action Plan of Quezon City 2021-2050. As for the QCity Bus program itself, the local government announced last year that the service will remain free for life. It caters to Quezon City citizens as well as individuals who work, study, or make transactions within the city.
