Have you been wondering about the structure currently being constructed on Elliptical Road in Quezon City? It’s another green initiative of the local government: an elevated landscaped promenade that will serve as a pedestrian- and bike-friendly structure connecting Quezon Memorial Circle and the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center.
Construction of the elevated promenade began during Holy Week. The local government has not given a target completion date for the project, but no further road closures have been announced just yet.

Unlike your typical footbridge, the new structure is much wider, allowing for separate bike lanes and pedestrian walkways. The renderings show what appear to be ramps on either end; if this is the final design, then cyclists will be able to ride their bikes up and down. There are also seats in the elevated portion for those wanting to take a break.

The elevated promenade was designed by the City Architect’s Office and is being constructed by the City Engineering Department in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It is one of Quezon City’s projects geared toward preserving the environment and promoting pedestrian and alternative mobility, especially cycling. The local government’s bike-friendly projects include bike lanes protected by plant boxes and bike ramps.
Once completed, the elevated promenade should also increase the volume of visitors at Quezon Memorial Circle and the Parks and Wildlife Center, as its access points on both ends are located inside these facilities.
What do you think of this new project, and which other spots in Quezon City should there be a similar structure?
