LTO summons registered owner of the vehicle in viral road rage video

The local government unit of Quezon City has also issued a statement

If you’ve ever spent enough time on social media recently, then you may have seen the viral video of the scuffle between a motorist and a cyclist in Quezon City. Well, it appears there are some new developments regarding this story.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has confirmed that the vehicle in the footage—a red Kia Rio with plate number ULQ 802—actually wasn’t registered. Also, the vehicle wasn’t actually owned by the motorist in the viral video. The agency has now issued a Show Cause Order, summoning the registered owner to its office on August 31.

Kaya tuloy ang Show Cause Order upang mabigyan tayo ng paliwanag ng registered owner kung bakit iba ang nagmamaneho ng sasakyan niya,” said LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II. “Gusto nating malinawan kung naibenta na ba niya ito, ipinahiram lang o kung ano pang circumstances kung bakit iba ang nagmamaneho nang mangyari ang viral na insidenteng ito.”

The LTO is mandating the registered owner of the vehicle to submit a notarized affidavit explaining why he shouldn’t be penalized for the recent incident.

“Since yung driver ay lumabas na sa publiko, he should expect that the LTO will summon him to explain why the privilege that the government gave him to own a driver’s license should not be revoked as part of the due process,” added Mendoza.

The local government unit of Quezon City has also issued a statement regarding the incident. Part of the official statement reads:

Pinag-aaralan naman ang iba pang video mula sa mga CCTV sa lugar para malaman ang buong pangyayari.


Sinisiguro ng pamahalaang lungsod na mananagot ang naturang lalaki sa buong saklaw ng batas na kanyang posibleng nilabag.

Umapela rin ang lokal na pamahalaan sa lalaking siklista na humarap sa imbestigasyon, kasabay ng pagtiyak sa kanyang kaligtasan.

Hangad ng lokal na pamahalaan na maglaan ng ligtas na bike lanes sa lahat ng siklista.

Walang puwang ang paggamit ng dahas sa buong lungsod ng Quezon City.
