We recently reported that Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) will soon resume selling its Easytrip RFID stickers through Shopee and Lazada after finalizing installation guidelines for consumers. With this, we thought it fitting to ask the tollway executives if they have established safety nets to prevent unscrupulous motorcycle owners from installing their elecronic tags on non-highway-legal units.
Tollway personnel have been instructed to be on the lookout for these small bikes trying to gain access to expressways. However, we’ve personally witnessed 150cc units sporting similar designs to big bikes making their way onto toll roads.
Abraham Sales, executive director of the Toll Regulatory Board, warns motorcycle owners who have been able to transfer their RFIDs using improvised bolt-on brackets or velcro, saying this practice is against the law.
“Bawal po yan. One vehicle, one RFID lang po,” Sales emphasized during a press conference on November 25, adding that a motorist can be held liable for misrepresentation because each tag is only meant for the vehicle listed during the application process.
“Dapat po nakadikit po yan. Kung tatanggalin niyo, baka masira po yan,” he added.
If you don’t want to wait until Easytrip RFIDs go on sale online, or if you simply prefer to go to an installation site to obtain one, check out the latest list of 24/7 Easytrip and Autosweep installation venues.
