In July, we reported that Toyota Motor Philippines was set to organize a one-make race starring the all-new Vios. The plan is to fill the grid of Clark International Speedway next year with 35 cars, to be driven by Toyota customers who can afford to go racing. But before that, TMP is holding a promotional race in October, featuring motoring journalists and show-business personalities.

Last Sunday, September 1, TMP conducted what was supposed to be a qualifying session to determine who would participate in the promotional race for the 2014 Vios Cup. The session was held at CIS under the supervision of race driver JP Tuason. Invited to the \"shoot-out\" were representatives from seven publications: Top Gear Philippines, The Manila Times, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, Balita and AutoIndustriya.

Of the seven media outlets, only five were supposed to qualify. But out of TMP\'s generosity, it was decided that all seven would be accommodated to the promotional race. We assigned our publisher Jeff Reyes to race for Top Gear, just because he\'s the oldest on the team. Other Top Gear team members competing in the race are Brian Afuang (for The Manila Times) and Botchi Santos (for Inquirer).

Anyway, here are the photos taken from last Sunday\'s qualifying session. Those who keep taunting the Vios for being a taxicab will be delighted to know that the subcompact sedan can actually hang with the 86 on the racetrack.
