No need to pinch yourself, folks, because this is real: A week after logging his first victory in 1,043 days, Marc Marquez has won the San Marino Grand Prix. As unbelievable as a back-to-back from Marquez in 2024 sounds, better believe it, because t’s very much real.
The Gresini Racing rider brought home the win after completing what was a tight race all throughout. It wasn’t as smooth-sailing as the Aragon GP for Marquez, who had to claw his way up from seventh where he ended up after the race start in Misano.

Towards the end of the race, the eight-time world champion was in the lead but also under constant pressure from reigning champion (and future teammate) Pecco Bagnaia. Marquez was able to hold on en route to victory, earning back-to-back wins for the first time in three years.
The San Marino GP also shook the current standings, as Bagnaia was able to cut the deficit between him and current leader Jorge Martin down to just seven points after the latter’s failed strategy cost him this weekend. Marquez himself has also shot up to third in the rankings, just 46 points behind Bagnaia and 53 behind Martin.
Considering how surprising the past weeks have been, we can’t count out the possibility of Marquez closing the gap even further. The action returns to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in a few weeks for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix—here’s hoping it’ll be even more exciting than this last one.
