Globe Slipstream

Let's get this out of the way: Globe Telecom, in partnership with the Lotus F1 Team, is holding the "Globe Slipstream" event on August 30 (Saturday) in Bonifacio Global City. Mark your calendars, girls, because this event will feature Filipino-Swiss race driver Marlon Stockinger, who, to be honest, is likelier to join Philippine show business than to line up on a Formula 1 grid.

Globe describes the event as "a celebration of speed with a race car driving exhibition, interactive booths, and an outdoor music festival and concert headlined by local and international acts."

Those music artists include Up Dharma Down, Yolanda Moon, Autotelic, DJ Joey Santos, Dualist Inquiry and Chk Chk Chk.

"Globe Slipstream will bring one of the world's fastest sports headlined by one of the fastest young drivers in the world, to the country's fastest-developing business hub powered by the nation's fastest and most modern network," said Globe chief operating advisor Peter Bithos.

Of course, Globe being "the nation's fastest network" is debatable, but you have to appreciate the marketing savvy. Such marketing savvy also gave Globe the creative mind to include in the invitation-and-press-release pack a do-it-yourself race car cardboard kit, which our nerdy writer Niky Tamayo, with the help of art director Raynand Olarte and editorial assistant Elaine Lara, enthusiastically put together (okay, only because we asked him to).

See the finished product below. We're pretty sure the event details have now been subliminally embedded in our cerebra after we've painstakingly assembled the cardboard scale model.
