To mark the start of deliveries of the McLaren 12C Spider in North America, McLaren Automotive has released a short film showing current Pikes Peak record holder and one-time Manila visitor Rhys Millen navigating the snow-covered route on Loveland Pass in Colorado.
To make it even more challenging for Millen, McLaren pitted him against professional snowboarder and Winter X Games medalist Chanelle Sladics.
According to McLaren, at 11,990ft (3,655m) above sea level, Loveland is the highest mountain pass in the world that stays open during the winter months. The British carmaker added that, besides utilizing Millen's talent behind the wheel of the 12C Spider, what made it possible for the car to navigate through the route is the dedicated Winter powertrain setting on both the 12C and the 12C Spider, which sets all of the electronic support systems to a maximum intervention level, "with gearshift strategy and torque control optimized to limit any loss of traction."
