Top Gear Philippines Philippine Car News - SEMA 2012: Chevrolet to offer limited-edition, real-life Camaro Hot Wheels

Chevrolet is tying up with die-cast toy-vehicle manufacturer Hot Wheels to come up with the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition that will be sold at the American carmaker's dealerships "early next year."

Chevrolet's collaboration with the toymaker marks the first time a full-size, production Hot Wheels car has been offered by any manufacturer. The special run of the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition will reportedly be produced in the first quarter of 2013, "and like the collectible toys on which it is based--when they're gone, they’re gone."

"It's been nearly 20 years since I started designing cars for Hot Wheels and I have yet to drive one home," said Felix Holst, vice president of creative for the Mattel Wheels Division. "Personally, I can’t wait to open the doors and see the Hot Wheels Camaro sitting in the garage."

The Camaro Hot Wheels Edition is available in either coupe or convertible form, and sports a Kinetic Blue exterior color and unique graphics to go with the Camaro ZL1-derived exterior cues. These include the rear spoiler (for coupe models), the front upper grille, and a ground effects package that includes the front splitter and rocker treatment. The black 21-inch wheels with red outline stripes; two-tone matte hood graphic; rear taillight panel 'blackout' graphic; fender 'flame' graphics; and Hot Wheels grille and decklid logos complete the car's look.

Inside, the car sports a black leather-trimmed interior that's accented with red and black seat stitching with the Hot Wheels logo embroidered on the front seats. A Hot Wheels-style flame decal adorns each door, while Hot Wheels Edition sill plates distinguish the car along with the Camaro-logo premium floor mats with red edging.

Powering the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition is either the 3.6-liter 323hp 2LT V6 engine or the 6.2-liter V8 engine (in either the L99, automatic-transmission-equipped 400hp variant or the LS3, manual-equipped 426hp version).

"Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels," said Chevrolet marketing vice president Chris Perry. "Offering a special-production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages."
