Ford is playing around with some wacky ideas for front trunk usage in its future electric vehicles. One of its latest creations involves a screen so that you can watch content while standing in front of your F-150 Lightning. Because why not?
The patents—yes, there is more than one—show there’s plenty of potential for creativity in those front trunks, because what do you do with all that space where the engine should be?
The patent application diagrams, first reported by Motor Authority, show a ‘frunk’ workspace complete with standing desk, a frunk table (presumably to eat from), and a frunk work station where tools can be attached. And of course there's that retractable frunk screen, where a projector could be attached to the edge of the hood to play your favorite TopGear videos on YouTube for everyone else at the charging station.

While we’re not convinced Ford’s front trunk battery swapping would give sufficient weight distribution to a vehicle of that size, the brand is clearly exploring the issues around charging wait times by taking a leaf out of the Nio play book. And let’s be honest, frunks are often a bit redundant. Useful for little more than holding wet charging cables away from your stuff in the conventional rear boot, we applaud Ford's efforts. So over to you, give us you best front trunk ideas below...
