Honda has announced that it will introduce three all-new turbocharged VTEC engines that are suitable for its small and medium vehicles. As the latest addition to Honda’s Earth Dreams technology, the next-generation powerplants are expected to offer \"both the fun of driving and excellent fuel economy at a high level.\"
Based on a completely new engine structure, all three VTEC Turbo mills will be utilizing Honda\'s newly developed turbo systems along with the Japanese carmaker\'s popular variable valve motion technology. According to Honda, these new turbo engines will be applied on a number of future global models, \"depending on local market requirements and vehicle characteristics.\"
The first VTEC Turbo engine that will be made available to the public is the high-output, 2.0-liter direct-injection mill. Producing over 280hp and compliant with Euro 6 emission standards, the engine will go in the upcoming Civic Type R, which is slated to go on sale in 2014.
The two other VTEC Turbo engines--a 1.0-liter direct-injection three-cylinder powerplant and a 1.5-liter direct-injection four-cylinder mill--have been designed to exhibit reduced friction and achieve \"class-leading output and environmental performance.\"
Let\'s hope these VTEC Turbo engines eventually find their way to our shores soon.
