Toyota expects to sell more than eight million units this year with bulk of the sales coming from emerging markets.
The Japanese carmaker is expecting higher sales for the third straight year despite the numerous recalls that plagued the brand in 2010, a Reuters report said.
The last time Toyota sold more than eight million vehicles globally was in 2007 when a record 8.42 millions units rolled off the Japanese brand’s showrooms.
In the Philippines where Toyota holds one-third of the market, the carmaker is conservative about its growth forecast. While the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines has yet to reveal its sales projection for 2011, a source said Toyota Philippines hopes to match the industry’s growth, which is seen at “around five percent growth over last year.”
