There are fast racers, and then there are masterful ones: those who have the physical and mental ability to maximize their machinery while retaining the headspace needed to strategize on the fly and make split-second calls under pressure. When a race suddenly descends into chaos, these quick-witted contenders can take advantage of the changing conditions and outsmart their competitors.
We had the chance to catch up with our country’s three representatives to the 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup Asia Finals before they set off for Malaysia. These send-offs usually comprise a quick interview and photo op, but just for fun, we threw in a challenge: Do one lap of the High Speed Ring while answering six motorsports-related questions. The goal was to catch them off guard and see if they could keep up their usual pace, and also to test their motorsports knowledge. For every correct answer, they got a 0.5sec time bonus; for every incorrect response, they get a 0.5sec time penalty.

In case you need a refresher, the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup is a global e-motorsports series that pits the world’s top sim racers against each other. Top placers on the national level proceed to the regional finals, with the best of each region making up the grid in the World Finals.

This year’s Philippine representatives to the Asia Finals have proven their racing cred over multiple seasons. Third-placer Russel Reyes was last year’s national champion and is now dipping his toes in real-world racing at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup, trading his virtual GR Yaris for a race-prepped Vios. Runner-up Enzo Ison has hit the ground running in his first season as a Sporting Class contender, having won the Junior Class last year. Finally, Luis Moreno—now a two-time national champion—will be aiming to reach the World Finals again this year after making it all the way to that stage in 2023.
We join the rest of the country in cheering them on as they race in the 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup Asia Finals in Malaysia on October 13. Be sure to catch the action via the livestream on Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines’ Facebook page. But first, how did they fare in our trivia challenge? Watch the video to see who came out on top.
