Man, this thing is a gem. This is a 1983 Honda City Turbo, the ancestor of the esteemed Honda e and, of course, the new City Hatch. It’s a hatch and it’s retro, so it’s really hard not to love.
We found this thing on BringATrailer, and as of this writing, the bid is at $3,650, or about P175,000 in local currency. Frankly, that’s a pretty reasonable price tag.
That amount will get you this clean, three-door hatch. You can’t call it mint-condition because there are some peelings on the rear bumper, but the way this thing has aged is still quite impressive. Judging by the photos, the exterior paint and those 12-inch steel wheels still look smooth overall.
The interior still looks pretty good, too. Here, the City has more retro bits like the three-spoke steering wheel, the vintage cassette stereo, and the old Honda bucket seats. It has A/C as well, which is a plus. Meanwhile, the odometer reads 24,000km, but true mileage is supposedly unknown.
Under the hood of this city is a 1.2-liter four-banger turbopetrol that generates 100hp. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. Not exactly hot hatch figures, but this thing looks like it’s a heck of a lot of fun to drive.
Speaking of fun to drive, what’s worth noting more than anything else here is that the in spite of the unknown mileage, this City still runs like a dream—at least that’s what this brief clip below tells us. See for yourself:
A pretty cool piece, don’t you think? If you could place a bid on it, though, how much would you be willing to pay for it? Tell us what you think about it in the comments.
