We might not always recognize it, but Metro Manila residents live in constant fear of the "Big One," the massive once-in-a-millennium earthquake that could strike within our lifetime. After all, we've seen the devastating effects a quake can have in other parts of the country. Even when we feel the mere aftershocks of a distant epicenter, we experience all sorts of doubts about our chances of survival.

A quake can strike without warning, so it helps to be prepared wherever you might be. It could even hit while you're casually driving down the street. In case that happens, you should know the proper steps to take to ensure your safety.
