Silverstone Auctions has been host to many historic vehicles of significance to the British royal family. One of the last few we featured in this space was an old Ford Escort once owned by Princess Diana.
This time around, though, we travel further back in time with this 1942 Ford GPW Jeep. It wasn’t owned by any member of the royal family, but it was used to transport His Majesty King George VI himself during a morale-boosting visit to RAF Chelveston on November 14, 1942.

The Ford GPW Jeep was built between 1942 and 1945 and is considered the ‘World War Two Jeep’ alongside the Willys-built models. Over 500,000 of these were produced, and the vehicles from both Ford and Willys had fully interchangeable parts.
This particular unit that’s going under the hammer at the Race Retro Show at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire in February is in a well-restored condition. The images indicate the body and the wheels have pristine army green paint. The soft-top and the interior appear to be in excellent shape as well. It also has complete papers with accompanying documentation for authenticity.
The guide price for this one is £35,000-£45,000, or about P2.33 million to P3 million. How much do you think something like this would actually go for?
