Fun fact: The third-generation Mazda 3 has been the most successful model for the brand throughout its Philippine run. Of course, we are expecting a new one soon—the fourth generation of the compact was revealed at last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
If this reveal by Mazda Philippines is any indication, we might not have to wait much longer. The Japanese manufacturer recently showcased the all-new 3 in the country. This wasn’t just any sneak preview, though—the hatchback’s appearance onstage marked its Southeast Asian debut.
Its design is based on the Kai Concept, which eschews conventional character lines in favor of a smooth and seamless surfaces. The upgraded Kodo design retains the Japanese brand’s signature athletic styling. Up front, there’s a larger grille and slimmer LED headlights than on the outgoing model.
In other markets the 3 will be powered by Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X engine. In the US, there are gasoline- and diesel-powered variants available as well. No specs were revealed for the offering destined for the Philippines, though. Stay tuned for that.
