Chinese-made cars have certainly come a long way in terms of design, performance and, perhaps most important, reputation. You don’t need to look much further than the local success of the Geely Coolray and the MG ZS for proof. But are they any safer than before?

If we’re going by ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) standards, Chinese models like the Coolray and are doing pretty well when it comes to keeping their passengers unharmed during crashes. Both vehicles managed to score five-star ratings in crash tests conducted by the organization, which is pretty good.

For comparison, the HR-V year model here managed to score a five-star adult protection rating and four-star child protection rating under 2015 ASEAN NCAP crash testing standards.

Again, it’s important to note that without the crash test’s complete results, it’s impossible to make a solid conclusion. But how do you think the crash test turned out based solely on an eye test? Let us know in the comments.
