The Honda Prelude revival is well underway. In fact, a select few from the Japanese motoring media have been given the chance to try it out, and the reception is has been promising.
Unfortunately, we’re not part of the Japanese motoring press, so we can’t give you any impressions. As a consolation, Honda did release ‘official spyshots’ of the pre-production model. In other words, it’s the model we can expect soon, but with copious amounts of camo.

Obviously, big chunks of the exterior are still hidden, but we can safely say that the shape of the showroom version is largely carried over from the concept. That’s a rare thing given more design limitations due to safety regulations.
The headlight design is mostly the same, as well as the shape of the bumper. However, we did notice that the light bar that connected the headlights in the concept are no longer present.
We’re surprised to see the flush door handles make its way to the road going model. The roofline remains rakish just like in the concept, and the curved fender flares made a successful transition from the model shown in 2023.
As for the rear, we see a glimpse of the full-width tail lights. By the looks of things, it still looks largely identical to car we saw during the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. It remains to be seen if the Honda typeface on the lightbar will remain, or of it will be taken off for the production model.
The rear end design suggests that the revived Prelude will be a liftback. It’s either that or we’re expecting an extremely shallow trunk. For us, though, the only thing missing is a rear spoiler.
It’s no secret that the revived Prelude will be a hybrid. However, it has been noted that the coupe will use an updated version of the system found in the Civic e:HEV. With that, we’re expecting more power out of it, as well as improved efficiency. Honda’s ‘S+ Shift technology’ will also debut on this model that adds simulated shifts to its gear-less transmission.
Given that Honda gas shown the pre-production unit, the company has finally mentioned a target launch date. The all-new Honda Prelude will be fully revealed towards the latter half of 2025. Just in time for that year’s Japan Mobility Show, then.
