Specs, prices, features: Everything you need to know about the 2027 Jaecoo J5 EV

Another budget-friendly EV has entered the market

Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines has recently bolstered its lineup anew with its latest offering, the Jaecoo J5 EV.

This subcompact SUV positions itself as a budget-friendly, feature-packed EV that can be a potential alternative to both petrol-powered cars and the booming hybrids. It’s also priced to compete against the most popular HEVs and PHEVs that are currently dominating the market.

Variants and prices of the Jaecoo J5 EV 2027

Only one variant of the Jaecoo J5 EV is available at launch. The J5 EV Max stickers for P1,399,000. Each purchase comes with a seven-year/200,000km vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty. Customers will also receive one year of complimentary PMS and roadside assistance for free, along with three years of complimentary mobile remote vehicle control service. A 7kW wall charger also comes with every purchase.

The J5 EV also comes with a new Battery State of Health (SOH) warranty, with which Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines will completely replace the EV battery free of charge if said battery falls below 70% within the applicable warranty period, subject to the terms and conditions of the warranty.

Jaecoo has kept the design of the J5 EV quite simple and minimalist. Up front is the Jaecoo logo embossed on a gloss-black panel enveloped by the almost boxy-looking headlights. The same design can be found out back, where there are also sizeable J5 and EV badges on the tailgate. Overall, the J5 EV consists mostly of straight lines with curves kept to a minimum.

This EV measures 4,380mm long1,860mm wide, and 1,650mm tall with a 2,620mm wheelbase. Minimum ground clearance when fully loaded is listed at 166mm, while unladen is at 184mm. It sits on 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 235/55 R18 tires.

The inside of the Jaecoo J5 EV consists mostly of dark surfaces, with varying shades of black on the dash, seats, side panels, and center console. There’s a good mix of leather and soft-touch materials in the cabin, and gloss-black plastic trim and a few gray bits further accentuate the interior. There are top and bottom trays in the middle of the front row, with an additional compartment underneath the center armrest.

There’s 380 liters of cargo space out back, with a 35-liter frunk for additional storage.

The J5 EV packs a 58.9kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with a single electric motor that generates 208hp and 288Nm of torque. This setup promises up to 461km on a single charge and can do 0-100kph in 7.7sec. Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines, however, tested the J5 EV and was able to eke out 539.2km on one full charge, which is 117% of the claimed range.

The Jaecoo J5 EV also supports DC fast charging of up to 130kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes. AC charging of up to 6.6kW is standard.

The J5 EV also gets MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension. Stopping power is handled by front ventilated discs and rear solid discs.

Extra features of the Jaecoo J5 EV 2027

The Jaecoo J5 EV gets plenty of amenities, starting with the 13.2-inch vertical infotainment system. This head unit gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. For added driver convenience, there’s also power adjustment for the driver’s seat.

The ADAS package includes features such as lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, forward-collision with autonomous emergency braking, rear-collision warning, hill-start assist and hill-descent control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, door-open warning, speed-limit warning with an active speed limiter, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist.
