Jeep Philippines recently launched the refreshed version of its rugged Wrangler Rubicon, the more rugged higher-spec sibling of the Sport variant introduced earlier this year. For this comparo, we’ll be pitting it against the Ford Bronco Outer Banks with Sasquatch Package—the only version of the Bronco that’s sold here.
The Wrangler Rubicon measures 4,785mm long, 1,877mm wide, and 1,868mm tall, or 26mm shorter, 138mm narrower, and 44mm lower than the Bronco. The Jeep rides on a stretched-out 3,008mm wheelbase, which is 58mm greater between the axles than the Ford off-roader. In Korea, the identical-looking Rubicon’s official width is 1,940mm; we believe this could be its overall width from the tire sidewalls, which appear to bulge out slightly past the fender flares. Using this wider figure, the Rubicon is 75mm narrower than its Ford rival. Note that the Sasquatch-equipped Bronco’s 2,015mm “maximum width without mirrors” is measured from the sidewalls of its tires.

The Wrangler Rubicon comes with 32.7-inch diameter 285/70 R17 tires, which are smaller than the Sasquatch-equipped Bronco’s 34.4-inch diameter 315/70 R17 rubber. For those curious, Jeep did respond to Ford’s Sasquatch Package with its own ‘Xtreme 35 Package,’ but this isn’t offered in our market at the moment.

The Jeep has a 274mm ground clearance, or 18mm less than Ford’s off-roader. The Rubicon is said to be able to wade through up to 34 inches or 864mm of water. After doing a bit of digging, the more accurate water-wading figure for the standard Rubicon without the Xtreme 35 Package is 30 inches or 762mm, this is 88mm less than the Sasquatch-equipped Bronco.

Here’s a quick overview of the two featured off-roaders. The refreshed Jeep Wrangler Rubicon gets a restyled front grille and now comes with the North American-style high-clearance fenders and chunkier tires. It also gets a revised dashboard with a larger infotainment screen. In the safety department, it finally gains curtain airbags. Under the Rubicon’s hood is Jeep’s familiar 268hp 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 gasoline engine.
The Ford Bronco, on the other hand, is the Blue Oval’s answer to the Wrangler. The Outer Banks with Sasquatch Package combines the Bronco’s luxury trim with a rugged off-road package. The PH-spec Bronco comes standard with a 330hp 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 gasoline mill. Both 4x4 SUVs feature removable doors and hardtops.
