The challenge of keeping children calm on a long road trip is a universal struggle that doesn’t discriminate. Even celebrity parents like Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona know all too well how fussy young kids can get when they’ve been sitting inside a car for some time.

Thankfully, the Cheats band members can turn to something they love to keep their boys Pancho and Vito from getting too restless: music.

“We survive on songs,” Saab shares. “They always ask for songs if they get fussy. We play music, they keep asking to change it, like ‘next, next next.’ But you know, it’s a small price to pay, and we actually enjoy their taste in music.”

Jim explains that their eldest son Pancho, who was born a few years before the COVID-19 pandemic, is used to being out and about. Vito, who was born just months before the first set of lockdowns hit, has yet to fully experience the outside world.

It was Vito’s first road trip, in particular, Jim recalls, that proved quite stressful. Still, it was the sounds from their car’s speakers that saved the day.

“Music is the only way. And it’s getting harder because their tastes are getting more and more different, so we have to appease one and then appease the other,” he says.

It does seem that Pancho and Vito take after their parents when it comes to musical talent.

So, what kind of songs do the young Bacarro boys enjoy?

Saab reveals: “So there’s a lot of, like, ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’ and then biglang Wilco, which is Pancho’s favorite band. And then there’s Tame Impala, which is Vito’s current favorite right now, and then back to CoComelon.”

Talk about a varied playlist. Still, as Saab puts it, “It’s pretty wild in the car, but it’s a fun road trip.”

We’re sure every parent can relate to that.
