Kia Philippines has had decent success in the subcompact-crossover segment over the past few years with the Stonic. In an interesting move, however, the Korean car brand recently decided to replace that offering with an entirely new one: the all-new Sonet.
It does make sense, though. The Sonet is a similar package as the Stonic—it’s small, stylish, and offers a lot of value for money with a P758,000 starting price. The Sonet, however, is more up-to-date and comes with more tech and features.

The Sonet is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that generates 113hp at 6,300rpm and 144Nm of torque at 4,500rpm and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission in the base variant and an intelligent variable transmission (IVT) in the other variants. This top-spec unit we drove—which is priced at P1.138 million—comes with the IVT.
Instead of telling you how it drives, though, I’ll let the actual footage do the talking. You can just click play on the embedded video below to see my first impressions of the new crossover. I’ll also talk about other things apart from the driving, too.
