The Department of Energy Fuel Eco Run is an annual initiative that scores the fuel efficiency of participating cars. The most recent test involved 65 cars, consisting of 15 battery electric vehicles (BEV), five plug-in hybrids (PHEV), 14 non-plug-in hybrids (HEV), and 31 internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV).

These cars were tested on a 154.4km route along the Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX). To keep the results consistent, all hybrids and ICE vehicles were fueled with Petron XCS for gasoline-powered engines and Petron Turbo Diesel for diesel-powered engines. BEVs were charged using Petron Power Up EV chargers and ACMobility’s Power-on-Wheels charging service.
