The current-generation Nissan Navara made its global debut in June 2014, and it landed on our shores in February the following year. Nissan gave its pickup a refresh in 2020 to keep it competitive. Fast-forward to 2025, and most of the Nissan pickup’s rivals have transitioned to new-generation models.
But not to be left behind, the Japanese carmaker has been working on an all-new model, and it could be revealed later this year. While we know the next Navara will be based on the Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan supposedly made changes to ensure that its upcoming pickup remains a Nissan despite its Mitsubishi roots.
Based on the bits of information out there, a single teaser image, and a bit of imagination to put everything together, here’s what I think the upcoming Triton-based Navara could look like. The renderings you see here depict the VL variant.

The general shape and proportions are carried over from the Triton. Up front, I gave it a honeycomb grille inspired by the one on the new Patrol; the new design omits the broad sides of the old V-motion grille. The chrome trim up front is limited to a single strip. Our next-gen Navara features a variation of Nissan’s split-headlight design, I chose this layout so it could retain the Mitsubishi pickup’s inner front structure. To further set it apart from the Triton, I gave it prominent semi-circle wheel arches.
The sculpting on the doors has been simplified to bring its styling closer to other Nissan models. The integrated rear spoiler and taillight shape were based on what was visible on the dark teaser. The rugged stamped ‘Navara’ on the bottom half of the tailgate is carried over. Exterior sheet metal changes are mostly limited to bolted-on panels like the hood, fenders, and doors. Visible external parts of the cab stampings are carried over. The pickup bed has been reskinned but retains the internal structure and dimensions of the Triton. I gave the VL variant silver 18-inch alloy wheels with black center caps. It rolls on 265/60 R18 tires.
What could power the upcoming new gen Navara? Our guess is it will most likely carry over the Triton’s 2.4 MIVEC diesel engines. As for the chassis, the changes will probably be limited to suspension tuning. We should remember the goal is to share as much as possible between the two pickups and cut down on development costs.
Would you consider the next-gen Navara over the Triton if it looked like this? Let us know in the comments.
