If you ask the average person to paint a picture of a midsize SUV, chances are, the first model that will come to mind is a Toyota Fortuner. This popular SUV is as ubiquitous as it comes, practically becoming part of the Philippine motoring landscape both literally and figuratively.
The second (and current) generation Toyota Fortuner made its world premiere in mid-2015 and eventually landed in the Philippines in 2016. It’s nearly a decade old now and an all-new model is coming soon. With that in mind, it seems like a solid SUV to get in the used car market.

With current Fortuner prices ranging from P1,769,000 to P2,670,000, it has risen quite substantially compared to its initial SRP from way back in 2016. For those who’d really like one, a second-hand unit seems like a good deal.
The thing is, there are literally thousands of second-generation Toyota Fortuner models floating around in the used car marketplace. And while this SUV has earned a solid reputation for reliability and dependability, there are still things you need to look out for when buying one of these.

Let Top Gear Philippines guide you through with our guide to the second-generation Fortuner. We’re here to tell you what’s good and, er, not so good about it, as well as parts that often need changing and any common problems. We’re here to make sure you don’t get a dud and have more trouble-free kilometers for years to come.
