Maxi-scooters are really gaining traction these days. Honda’s flagship maxi-scoot, the Forza 750, has recently been given an award for product design. The Forza 750 isn’t the first Honda two-wheeler to get the award, as the Japanese manufacturer’s top-of-the-line superbike, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP, also received a Red Dot Design Award.
What makes this scooter worthy of a similar honor as the Fireblade? Let’s take a look.
The Forza 750 ‘megascooter’ is small and easy to handle, with a relatively low 31.1-inch seat height, aerodynamics that promise comfortable highway riding for rider and passenger alike, the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, and a 22-liter under-seat storage compartment. All the makings of a comfortable and usable tourer, in other words.
Propelling the Honda Forza 750 is a 745cc parallel-twin engine with 57.8hp and 69Nm of torque. Combine these respectable performance numbers with a claimed 28.3km/L fuel efficiency figure, and you have a pretty good powertrain on your hands. Mated to the engine is a dual-clutch transmission that also allows for manual shifting.
Toshinobu Minami, chief operating officer of Honda R&D, commented on the award, saying: “We believe this is recognition of our success in designing our products with the passion to ‘make the daily lives of our customers more enjoyable,’ which has been passed down from generation to generation at Honda ever since the establishment of the company. We will continue to follow this unchanging principle and think ‘outside the box’ to create designs which will provide surprise and excitement in customers’ daily lives.”
