Yamaha has been continuously updating its global motorcycle lineup over the past year or so, and the latest model to get a refresh is the TMax.

The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer kept the scooter’s sporty styling but gave it a few tweaks that make it look a bit classier and cleaner. The sharp, pointy edges on the front clip have been trimmed for a rounder, more subdued look. T-shaped DRLs have also been added to the headlights. They’re slight changes, but they have big effects on the design.

Yamaha has also tuned the sound of the exhaust to give a “sense of acceleration and quietness during cruising”—or at least that’s what the direct translation of the Japanese press release says. Basically, the TMax is now a bit quieter, producing a more muffled sound when revved.

In addition, the TMax now has Y-Connect that allows users to link their smartphones to their bikes. This also allows riders to use the instrument cluster as a display for navigation by firing up the Garmin Motorize app and plugging their phones into USB socket in the front trunk.

Yamaha has also updated the driving modes to make Sport and Touring more distinct. Lastly, the scooter now also gets an emergency stop signal. In terms of the engine, however, there weren’t any changes, so it still packs a 562cc liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine that puts out 46.9hp and 55.7Nm of torque.

Yamaha confirmed that the new TMax will be released in Japan in February. Do you think the Philippine market should get this new model, too?
