BYD is determined to cover every size and price segment of the electric vehicle market. From small hatchbacks to midsize SUVs, the Chinese automaker has a battery-powered vehicle for all.
Not content with being the world’s best-selling EV automaker, the company is continuously adding more models in its lineup, whether it’s pure electric or range extenders. This time around, it’s a new budget crossover.

Dubbed the BYD Atto 2, it (predictably) slots below the Atto 3. This model is part of the brand’s Dynasty series, meaning it boasts a more formal look over the Ocean series’ more playful exteriors. But regardless of positioning, the Atto 2 aims to be one of the most affordable pure electric vehicles in its class.
Also known as the Yuan Up in its home market, the Atto 2 utilizes a shortened Atto 3 platform that’s also used in the Dolphin hatchback. It then packs BYD Blade battery pack. Sales and production in China began in March 2024 and exports started in September.

There are three variants and two battery pack options available. Entry-level models use a 32kWh pack, while mid to top variants come with a larger 45.1kWh unit. Range is rated at 301km for base models and 401km for mid and top trim levels.
Power outputs are the same as the Dolphin hatchback. That means 94hp and 180Nm for base models while it’s 174hp and 290Nm for mid and top trims. There is no all-wheel drive option for all Atto 2 models with the front wheels doing all the work.

Inside, it has the usual minimalist theme as seen in many BYD models with not much in the way of buttons. Also, the center touchscreen can change its orientation from landscape and portrait with a push of a button.
Size-wise, it measures 4,310mm long, 1,830mm wide, 1,675mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2620 mm. Those dimensions put it right in the heart of the subcompact crossover class. The segment’s top sellers include the Toyota Yaris Cross, Mitsubishi XForce, and Honda HR-V.
In China, BYD Atto 2 prices start from 96,800 yuan to 119,800 yuan. That’s a base price of around P780,500 directly converted to local currency and sans taxes. The top trim level goes for about P960,000, which still isn’t bad at all for a ‘right-sized’ subcompact pure electric crossover.
Local availability will depend on BYD’s local official distributor, AC Mobility.
