Believe it or not, the BYD Dolphin has been around for quite some time already. First introduced in 2021, it’s now one of the more ‘seasoned’ models in the BYD lineup.
Now, it’s time for the Dolphin to get a bit of an update. For the 2025 model year, the subcompact EV hatchback gets a host of exterior changes. More importantly, it gets powertrain updates.

For exterior changes, the 2025 Dolphin gets bigger headlights to give the little hatchback more presence. BYD also reshaped the front bumper, likely for aero reasons, with new corner air intakes and lower apron. Also, the BYD badge is now encased within the false grille panel.
Other changes? There are new wheel designs for both 16- and 17-inch sets, along with new color choices. At the back, the tail lights get a simplified LED pattern. Also, the bumper design is significantly different from the current version.

There are no interior photos of the new Dolphin just yet. However, it is likely that it will get a new infotainment system. It could also get a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen that’s used in other BYD models, along with a few trim changes.
Three powertrain options will be offered. The base model comes with a 45 kWh battery and a single electric motor that makes 94hp and 180Nm. For the mid-spec variant, it uses the same 45kWh pack but power rises to 174hp and 290Nm. The new top of the line model gets a much larger 60kWh battery pack and a more powerful motor with 201 hp and 310Nm.

It’s still unknown when the full reveal will be. However, there is a good chance that it will be during the first half of 2025. We can expect these updates to appear in the international versions of the new BYD Dolphin.
