We’ve been talking about the updated BYD Atto 3 for quite some time, and now it’s finally been unveiled. Only in Europe at the moment, yes, but there are a few reasons to get excited about it if you’re a fan of the Chinese brand’s EVs.
The updated Atto 3 doesn’t get significant aesthetic changes, but it now comes with rear-wheel drive as standard and an optional all-wheel-drive configuration. It now gets more power than before, of course.

Let’s talk cosmetics first. The chrome trim housing the BYD badge and flanked by the headlights retain their layout, but the air vents below are now smaller, with the body-color plastics taking up more real estate. It looks more Seagull than Sealion 6 now, if you think about it. At the rear, there’s less black plastic now as well, and the spoiler up top features a sportier aesthetic. Underneath, the 18-inch wheels now have a cleaner, more traditional-looking design.

The Atto 3 retains its exterior dimensions, but BYD has made good use of the e-Platform 3.0 architecture to maximize interior space. Interestingly, there’s now 490 liters of cargo space at the back, 50 liters more than before. With the second-row seats down, it expands to 1,360 liters. As far as styling goes, the cabin remains untouched. Two interior color options are available.

Now, for the highlight—the powertrains. The Atto 3 packs a 74.8kWh battery that supports up to 220kW DC chargers, which lets recharging from 10 to 80% in just 25 minutes. This battery powers the standard rear motor that puts out 309hp and 380Nm of torque. This setup lets the Atto 3 do 0-100kph in just 5.5sec and enables 510km of range.
As mentioned, all-wheel drive is now available, and it comes with a dual-motor setup that, in total, does 443hp and 560Nm of torque. This configuration equates to 0-100kph times of just 3.9sec and a maximum range of 470km. In case you didn’t notice, there’s no front-wheel-drive version available anymore.

As before, the Atto 3 still comes with a large 15.6-inch infotainment system on the inside. It comes integrated with Google functions. The vehicle also has V2L capabilities and is equipped with advanced driver-assist tech such as adaptive cruise control, front- and rear-cross traffic alert, front- and rear-collision warning, and blind-spot detection.
Thoughts on the new BYD Atto 3, readers? Would you like to see this in our market? Considering how popular this BYD is, we won’t surprised if the carmaker eventually brings this updated version here.
