The subcompact sedan market has been a little stale lately, at least locally. The best-selling Vios is crying out for a full model change, the Mirage is over a decade old, and the freshest models you can get are the Honda City and Nissan Almera. The last two aren’t exactly totally new either.
It was previously reported that we could expect an all-new City by 2027. However, Nissan could beat Honda to the punch with a redesigned subcompact sedan. See, it wasn’t just the Navara/Frontier that was teased recently.
There was slew of teasers shown recently, and among them appears to be the next-generation Nissan Almera. If so, it should bring some life to an otherwise aging segment.

By the looks of it, the car shown could be a production-ready model. There’s the production car-sized side mirrors, for instance, as well as the visible cuts for the panel–things you don’t see in a concept vehicle. If so, we’re in for a pretty radical redesign of the sedan.

We see a sharper front fascia with a distinct LED daytime running light pattern. This also suggests that the headlights might be mounted lower down. With that, it’s also possible we could see a wide grille in tune with recent design trends. At the back, we see a reprofiled corner, hinting drastic changes.
Given the exterior changes, we’re also expecting a major overhaul of the interior. As to what extent is still unknown, but it has to look as dramatic as the outside. We’d like to see better cabin materials and improvements in space efficiency.
As for engines, we can expect the 1.0-liter turbo to be carried over for the all-new Nissan Almera. A few extra horsepower would be welcome as it currently makes 99hp and 152Nm. It would also be nice to see an electrified option in the form of e-Power. Given that Honda has a hybridized City, it would be wise for Nissan to follow suit.
