Mini has revealed two new petrol-powered Cooper models to accompany the all-electric version, called the Cooper C and Cooper S. Aside from a mild styling update, the interior has been given a thorough refresh led by an all-controlling OLED screen. But more on that shortly.
The entry-level C has a 156hp three-cylinder engine, while the S is given a more spirited 204-horsepower four-pot - good for a 6.6 second sprint to 100kph. Both will be given upgraded damping and braking systems over the outgoing car, so it'll still be a hoot to chuck around.

The new ICE Mini retains its short overhangs and a short hood, while there's a new octagonal grille up front flanked by a pair of spherical LED headlights - just as the Cooper has done for the last 1,500 years. Though, we’re still getting accustomed to the revised matrix taillight design out back, which was introduced with the release of the fourth generation late last year.
You've got a choice of three trim levels - ‘Classic, ‘Exclusive’, and ‘Sport’ - and aside from the latter gaining a brawnier transmission and shift paddles, most of the differences between the trim levels are characterised by different body/roof finish combinations and corresponding alloys, which range between 17 and 18 inches.
Moving on to the cabin, Mini says most of its efforts have been focused on three primary sections: a new vescin steering wheel, a toggle bar, and a 24cm touch/voice-controlled OLED screen.
The OLED screen in particular has seen a radical overhaul from the old one, and now displays most of the primary driving information along the top half, while the lower section shows secondary data such as climate control. You can think of it as some sort of all-knowing oracle in Mini form. Using the new ‘Experience Mode’ selector, you can even choose one of seven configurations to change the ambient lighting around the interior.
Other noteworthy cabin features include a panoramic glass roof and a wireless charging shelf, while a head-up display is offered as an optional extra. Mini tells us the max cargo space is now 725 liters.
Mini boss Stefanie Wurst said: “At Mini, 'Power of Choice’ means that in addition to all-electric Mini models, we also offer models such as the new Mini Cooper with a petrol engine. The car is ideal for all those people who want to drive a classic Mini three-door and appreciate the traditional performance and characteristic sound of a combustion engine.”
