The MG 4 is a bit of an underrated overachiever in the local EV market. It rides well, drives well, surprisingly practical, and a solid choice for those ready to jump into the world of pure electric power. Oh, and it helps that it’s wrapped in a body that wouldn’t look out of place in a sci-fi flick.
If anything, the styling is the main hook for this battery-powered MG. Which is why we have rather mixed feeling for the all-new model.

Yes, there’s an all-new MG 4 and it’s just been revealed in its home market of China. This time around, it trades its sharp and sporty concept car styling for something more, well, mature. We’ll give you a minute to soak it all in.

Mind you, it does look more spacious than before. The roof appears much taller than before, and the car itself has been stretched. Its rounded lines add to the impression that the all-new MG 4 is much larger than its predecessor. The tale of the tape reveals a length of 4,395mm, 1,842mm wide, 1,551mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. Overall, the second generation MG 4 shifts its focus from sporty to practical.
There are no photos of the interior just yet, and the same goes for powertrain specifications. However, data from the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed one of the motor choices. It’s a 120kw unit, meaning it outs out about 161hp.
Torque, range, and battery capacity have yet to be disclosed. It is also unknown if it will have more powerful motor options, or if the high-performance XPower variant will return for this generation.
