BMW Philippines recently introduced new variants of the X3 and the X5: the X3 20 xDrive xLine and the X5 xDrive40i xLine. While the existing lineups of both SUVs have plug-in hybrid powertrains, these new additions feature self-charging hybrid setups.
The X3 and X5 HEVs feature unaltered exterior treatments. The illuminated kidney grilles are still present, as are the satin aluminum accents. These also retain the xLine styling cues present on the previous entry-level PHEVs (the X3 30e xDrive xLine and the X5 xDrive50e xLine).
The X3 20 xDrive xLine carries a 2.0-liter inline-four engine making 208hp and 300Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels. Meanwhile, the X5 xDrive40i xLine packs a 3.0-liter straight-six that churns out 381hp and 540Nm of torque. This time, the engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, also sending power to all four wheels.

The hybrid models also carry over virtually all of the interior features and creature comforts previously available in the PHEV variants. Drivers can expect to find the same BMW Live Cockpit instrument panel and infotainment screen setup, along with the windshield-integrated heads-up display, Comfort Access keyless entry, and Harman Kardon sound system.
The X5 xDrive40i in particular also retains the wood-trim dashboard and adaptive two-axle air suspension system.
The X3 20 xDrive xLine and the X5 xDrive40i xLine will serve as the new entry-level variants in their respective stables going forward. The X3 20 is priced at P3,998,000 (P700,000 cheaper than the X3 30e PHEV); the X5 xDrive40i is priced at P5,298,000 (P200,000 cheaper than the X5 xDrive50e PHEV).
The Department of Energy recognizes both models as electrified vehicles, making them eligible for the usual green plate privileges, such as coding exemption.
