BYD Cars Philippines just posted a rather interesting poll on its Facebook page. It’s cheekily asking netizens what they would do first after buying ‘a powerful pickup.’

This hints at a possible pickup release from the Chinese brand and local distributor ACMobility in the near future. Most likely, this could be the BYD Shark 6, the carmaker’s hybrid workhorse that has debuted in multiple foreign markets.

The BYD Shark 6 DM-o made its regional debut in Cambodia, and then was previewed in Thailand. And that is about as close to the Philippines as it has gotten. Previously, the hybrid pickup made its rounds across Mexico, several South American markets, and Australia.

The Shark 6 departs from the premium and classy design language we’re used to seeing on other BYD vehicles. This truck looks ready for the mud and whatever beaten path you want to throw it on. With the popularity of pickups going in that direction, it will be interesting to see how the local market will accept the Shark 6 if it hits Philippine roads. Loyalists of segment mainstays like the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger are a tough crowd to please, but the Shark 6 might just have what it takes.

Its hybrid powertrain pairs a 1.5-liter turbopetrol engine with dual motors, creating an AWD system that can make the 0-100kph sprint in about 5.7sec. The entire setup should put out 430hp and 650Nm of torque. In terms of driving range, the Shark 6 claims a distance of at least 800km. It also boasts a maximum towing capacity of 2,500kg, are a few drive modes for different terrains and environments. And of course, like all BYD vehicles, there is a huge 15.6-inch infotainment screen up front.
