BYD’s ‘Seal’ title is shaping up to be a complete sedan lineup with the recent debut of the all-new BYD Seal Advanced. The new electric sedan slides right in the middle between the hybrid BYD Seal 5 DM-i, and the performance EV, BYD Seal.

However, in true BYD fashion, the Seal Advanced has not compromised on luxury, comfort, and an eye catching price—P1,998,000 to be exact.

But what exactly does that price get you? Well to get the full experience, we’d need to take the BYD Seal Advanced through its proper paces, but in the meantime the spec sheets will do.

In terms of design, the Seal Advanced definitely leans more towards the sportier Seal. It still keeps that sleek, sloping fascia that retracts, and pops off into a drastic roofline. The rear keeps the same shape, and curves with the tailight extending from end to end. Visually, the Seal Advanced and Seal Performance are essentially twins—there isn’t even an ‘Advanced’ label, or badge on the vehicle, just ‘Seal.’

Inside the cabin, similarities between the two Seal EVs continue as both share the same 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen and the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The seats are similar as well.

What’s different on the Seal Advanced is the edition of an NFC tag on the car’s center console. BYD will be rolling out NFC cards with its new models to further assist drivers with keyless entry and other features. The infotainment screen on the Seal Advanced also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A pair of wireless phone chargers can also be found just south of the screen.

Where the BYD Seal Advanced really differs is in terms of output. It is not as punchy as the Seal Performance. Configured in a RWD system, the Seal Advanced puts out around 200hp, and 310Nm of torque. That power should help the EV make the 0-100kph sprint in about 7.5sec.

Sporting a 61.4kWh battery, the Seal Advanced claims a maximum driving range of 510km. And that battery has also been optimized to charge more efficiently than other batteries on the market. When attached to a low-powered 7kW AC charger, the Seal Advanced should take 12 hours to completely recharge.

All in all, the Seal Advanced packs above-average sedan performance in a sporty and sleek shape that could cost more on other brands and segments. For just under P2 million, would you pick up a BYD Seal Advanced?
