BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility are gearing up for yet another release, and this time the duo looks to take on the minivan segment. Reservations for the BYD eMax 9 DM-i are now open, but the full price and specifications have yet to be released.

As with other local BYD DM-i releases, we can expect a highly competitive price and possibly a dual-motor, AWD variant. On a recent trip to BYD Headquarters in Shenzhen, China, Top Gear Philippines features editor Anton Andres was able to get a closer look at the eMax 9, and the numbers suggest similar performance outputs to the recently debuted Tang DM-i.

That translates to a range-extended system built around a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator, with the option of either 20.4kWh or 36.6kWh batteries. The exact horsepower and torque figures were not available at the time, but a single-motor eMax 9 should output around 267hp and 315Nm of torque—like the Tang DM-i. Driving range is estimated at just over 1,000km, with 180km of purely electric motoring.

From the teaser posted, it looks like we’re getting the current version available in the Chinese market. Hopefully, that also means the same interior will be available, with captain’s seats on the second row, spacious third-row seating, and a larger entertainment screen for rear passengers.

This launch will mark the second eMax vehicle in the Philippines, following the fully electric eMax 7. It will also be the third turbocharged hybrid from BYD, after the Shark 6 DMO and the aforementioned Tang DM-i.
