The all-new BYD Seagull has officially launched in China. Along with larger dimensions and more power, the hatchback also receives BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, which enables it to use Flash Chargers.
We first got wind of the new Seagull in July when China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released homologation documents. While things were speculative back then, we can now confirm the new Seagull’s specs and features.

The hatchback now measures 4,205mm long, 1,810mm wide, and 1,570mm tall—significantly longer and wider than the current-generation Seagull we have in our market, which measures 3,780mm long and 1,715mm wide. Along with the increase in size comes more cabin space for five occupants, while cargo space has increased to 1,380 liters with the rear seats folded. Meanwhile, a frunk has also been added with storage of up to 94 liters.

As for the electric powertrain, the new Seagull gets two options: a 114hp motor paired with a 30.1kWh battery or a 127hp motor hooked to a larger 39.2kWh battery. Both electric motors crank out 130Nm of torque. The larger 39.2kWh battery is compatible with BYD Flash Chargers and can top up from 10% to 70% in just five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. CLTC driving range is listed at 420km for the Flash-Charging-compatible model and 320km for the non-Flash-Charging model.

Additionally, the hatchback is also spec’d with the DiPilot 300 driving-assist system. The LiDAR sensor enables it to use autopilot and collision-avoidance features. The interior now also gets a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen with an artificial intelligence system. Of course, these software systems could differ if and when this Seagull reaches our shores.
Design-wise, the Seagull still has the familiar silhouette and angry-looking styling, but opts for more curves to balance out the hard edges. There are also a bunch of color options to choose from, including Berry Pink, Cream White, Ice Coconut Blue, Lime Green, Mango Orange, and Sesame Gray.
The second-generation Seagull in China starts at CNY65,900 (P624,116) and tops out at CNY99,900 (P946,297), with the most affordable Flash-Charging model priced at CNY75,900 (P718,959). As of writing, there are no announcements on when this hatchback will hit global markets, but we’ll keep you posted on any further news. What do you think of the all-new BYD Seagull?
