Well, now we know what ride Dom and Letty will be looking to buy once they decide to ditch over-the-top car chases for raising a family.
This is the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. Yes, Hellcat. The American carmaker has gone all-out and tucked a hearty 6.2-liter supercharged V8—the same one powering the SRT Hellcat Charger and Challenger—and has created what it calls a vehicle “for muscle car people with families.”
Initial thoughts? Good luck cleaning up the rear seats when little Billy loses his lunch while Dad is turning a corner. Other than that, this family car is a spec-sheet tour de force: 710hp and a whopping 875Nm of torque, 0-60mph (97kph) in 3.5sec, a quarter-mile in just 11.5sec, and a top speed of 290kph. Insane.
Covering all that performance is an ultra-aggressive exterior with plenty of functional aero bits. According to the company, the Durango SRT’s rear spoiler gives the vehicle a 400% increase in downforce. It also runs on an upgraded suspension with stiffer mounts, with stopping duties handled by Brembo brakes.
The cherry on top? If you’re hurrying on the way to soccer practice, the Durango SRT has Launch Control and Launch Assist. These features manage tire slip and monitor wheel speed for top-notch straight-line performance. There’s also a Track Mode that provides more grip and better handling.
“The Brotherhood of Muscle includes families of all sizes and the Durango delivers Dodge performance as the Charger of the three-row SUV segment,” Dodge head of passenger cars Tim Kuniskis says. “The 710hp Hellcat is the most powerful SUV ever. It’s the last piece of the puzzle and, alongside the Charger and Challenger, completes the Dodge brand’s performance lineup.”
No pricing details for this beast just yet, but don’t expect it to cost anywhere near what standard Durango units go for. Buy it, and your kids will never be late for school again.
