Last November, we were present at the launch of the refreshed Ford Explorer Sport. We loved it: the look, the features, and most especially that sweet EcoBoost V6 engine. The only downside was that anyone who wanted the lower-end variant would have to wait a little while longer for the updated model. Well, the wait is finally over.
Ford Philippines has announced that the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost-powered Explorer has finally made its way to our market, over a year after it was first unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Aside from the new engine, the new Explorer has a redesigned look and a modernized cabin similar to the higher-end Sport variant--making it an enticing alternative option for anyone shopping for a new SUV.
Design-wise, the new Explorer conveys a more rugged demeanor, thanks to its robust proportions, dominant stance and more aggressive-looking front end. Standing tall on 20-inch premium aluminum wheels helps, too. A heightened grille, new closed-off lower roof rack and a rear spoiler cap off this SUV's updated exterior. The interior, meanwhile, is a lot more comfortable with engine subframe mounts designed to reduce vibration.
Of course, the main selling point of this SUV is the new 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine capable of delivering up to 270hp at 5,500rpm and 408Nm at 3,500rpm. The engine's performance, together with its six-speed automatic SelectShift transmission, should be able to provide occupants with a dynamic drive.
Other features found on the new SUV include a 180-degree front camera, smart-charging USB ports, a hands-free liftgate, front park assist and paddle shifters. The new Explorer carries a price tag of P2.479 million, and is available in a tuxedo black, white platinum or magnetic metallic.
