A year after its global launch, the Ferrari 296 Speciale has received homologation approval from the Land Transportation Office. In addition, the Department of Energy has also recognized its convertible counterpart, the 296 Speciale Aperta, in its list of recognized electric vehicles.

The 296 Speciale is the heavily re-engineered, more aggressive 296 GTB. It uses a hybrid system with a twin-turbo V6 engine and an electric motor producing a combined output of 869hp and 755Nm of torque. The 296 Speciale can go from 0 to 100kph in 2.8 seconds, and 0 to 200kph in just 7.0 seconds.

A main highlight of the 296 Speciale is its aerodynamic package. Compared to the GTB, the Speciale generates 20% more downforce with a peak aero load of 435kg. Through obsessive weight shaving, the Speciale also sheds 60kg from the GTB, with a dry weight of 1,410kg. As for stopping power, it only takes 106 meters for the supercar to go from 200kph to a complete standstill thanks to its large carbon-ceramic brakes.

Not that we imagine anyone buying a 296 Speciale would be too concerned with its fuel economy, but in case you’re curious, the plug-in hybrid supercar achieves 11.2km/L. That’s not bad at all. The LTO papers state that the battery can be charged in four hours and 30 minutes using an AC charger.

As for the 296 Speciale Aperta (or ‘Speciale A’ as some like to call it), the only main difference it has from the Speciale would be the retractable hardtop and the added 50kg of weight from the mechanism and support of said hardtop. Everything else is pretty much identical.

How much, you ask? Ferrari’s local website doesn’t explicitly state the price. But based on international prices, the 296 Speciale starts at around P29,100,000, give or take. If you’re eyeing the convertible 296 Speciale Aperta, that stickers for around P32,200,000 in other markets.
