When the Ford EcoSport first arrived here in 2013, it quite possibly kicked off the entire subcompact budget crossover class in the Philippines. It was one of the first sub P1-M cars you can buy with a fair bit of ground clearance, and it was a hit among buyers in its early years.

It might not have been the best model in its class in successive years, but the EcoSport was a steady seller for Ford Philippines later on. Despite that, it was discontinued in the country just a few years ago.

Ironic then that Ford Philippines no longer has an affordable small crossover in its lineup anymore. These days, there’s a whole raft of them, mostly Chinese and with the Toyota Raize at the top of the sales chart in that segment. However, the little EcoSport might make a comeback soon.

According to Spanish motoring site Motor.Es, the revived Ford EcoSport could make its debut by 2025. The site adds that a new model will be made at its Valencia plant in Spain, and that it’s a possible rival to the Dacia Duster. Over in Europe, the Duster has a strong hold on the small, budget crossover class, a segment Ford would like a piece of as well.

The report goes on to say that the next EcoSport could be offered with hybrid power. However, low-displacement turbocharged engine choices are not off the table. There’s a good chance that it might look like the model last seen in the leaked patent photos a few months ago.

So far, there are no sightings of any prototypes on the road, nor any hints from the manufacturer. With that in mind, it’s likely we’re looking at a mid to late 2025 reveal. If Ford is, indeed, busy at work developing the all-new EcoSport, it’s doing a great job keeping it all under wraps.

But, either way, the budget crossover market is a strong one across the world, and we doubt Ford will allow its competitors to keep fielding entries in that class. Whether it wears an EcoSport badge or not remains to be seen.
