The Ford Explorer gets yet another upgrade for the 2025 model year. After receiving a major facelift, one of the most popular SUVs in America has gained a new, outdoorsy variant.
Dubbed the Tremor, it effectively replaces the Timberline, but adds more off-road oriented goodies that help it go further off the beaten path. On top of that, its optional engine gives it a lot more muscle.

But first, the off-road goodies. For starters, it gets a unique suspension arrangement specifically tuned for this variant. It adds 25mm to the ride height, meaning ground clearance goes from 201mm to 226mm. At the same time, it gets a proper limited slip differential to aid traction on loose surfaces. All-terrain tires are part of the package, along with underbody protection in the form of skidplates.

It’s easy to spot the Tremor among the wide variety of Explorer trim levels available. Aside from the taller hight and chunky tires, it gets a unique exterior treatment. It includes matte bronze highlights, integrated driving lights on the grille, black wheels, and exposed tow hooks at the front and rear. Inside, the black interior gets orange contrast stitching, along with Tremor labels on the seats.
Under the hood is a 2.3-liter Ecoboost engine lifted straight from the entry-level Mustang. It’s good for 300hp and 420Nm of torque that’s then paired with a ten-speed automatic. However, we say it’s worth paying more for the other choice which is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. Yes, it’s the exact same engine from the Ranger Raptor, but this one has a bit more pull. It punches out 400hp and, more importantly, 563Nm.

The odds of the Ford Explorer Tremor coming here are relatively slim, but that doesn’t mean the heavily facelifted version won’t make its way to the country. Recently, the Land Transportation Office published the homologation papers for the more luxurious Platinum AWD variant. The launch date is still yet to be determined, but it should land here sooner than later.
